The platform that was initially designed for people to chat through random video chats, has now lost its innocence to malicious activities. These types of activities become a big threat to the safety and well-being of the users that are on the platform.
One of the largest reasons for the Omegle shutdown are the gush of video crimes. This includes explicit content, harassment etc. This being done in an anonymous way leads to individuals creating spiteful content that triggers a part of the Omegle users. These types of videocrimes have gotten increasingly common over the past 14 years of omegle.
Countless people worldwide were victims of these videocrimes. An example of this that has gotten many people’s attention is the young woman that is identified as “A.M”, who sued Omegle after getting matched with a man named Ryan Scott when she was 11. This man got sentenced to prison for exploiting “A.M” and many other girls, after police found thousands of illegal photos and videos on his devices at home.
As the concerns got bigger about these crimes, Omegle took a variety of actions to reduce them. These actions were taken in a more serious manner such as stricter guidelines, reporting procedures and controlling algorithms. It is safe to say that it was hard to keep up with offenders due to the amount of users and the speed of which these crimes occur.
Omegle eventually had to shut down its platform due to the increasing difficulties and a damaged reputation. In addition to securing users from potential harm , the shutdown stated that the platform had failed to effectively prevent video crimes. Additionally, it is self explanatory that other online platforms should be taking note of these tragic incidents, and should always prioritize the safety and well-being of the users instead of attempting to quickly grow the website.

Heinous activity and video crimes have severe consequences for both the platforms and users. By this, we understand that online platforms must put emphasis on security measures and create a safe environment for user interaction.
