THIMUN 2025

My First Big MUN Stage: THIMUN 2025 and the Speech That Changed Everything

Walking into the THIMUN 2025 conference hall, I was overwhelmed. It was my first time attending such a large-scale international Model United Nations conference. Delegates were everywhere—organized, confident, and already deep in debate. I was assigned to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) committee, representing a country with a strong interest in economic stability and debt relief. It felt intimidating, but I also knew this was exactly where I wanted to be.

The topic at hand was global debt management and support for economically unstable regions. After days of research, drafting, and practice, I had prepared an in-favor speech supporting a resolution that proposed long-term IMF support with clear structural frameworks. The resolution focused on equitable loans, financial transparency, and collaborative partnerships with local governments. My speech emphasized not just numbers and policy, but the human impact behind financial crises. I argued that economic aid, when well-structured and responsibly monitored, could lay the foundation for long-term peace and development.

When my name was called to take the floor, I felt a deep sense of nervousness—but also determination. This was my moment. Speaking in front of such an experienced crowd for the first time was overwhelming, but I focused on my words, my message, and the effort I had put into getting there. I remember looking around the room and realizing that I was part of something larger—an international conversation about real-world issues.

After I finished, there was a brief silence, then a few nods, and some delegates even raised their placards with points of information. That was the moment I truly felt like I belonged. I had contributed. I had found my voice.

THIMUN 2025 was more than just a conference for me—it was a turning point. It taught me how to speak up even when I’m unsure, how to defend an argument under pressure, and how international collaboration is built on listening as much as speaking. It reminded me that passion and preparation can carry you through any room, no matter how big.

And now, I know this won’t be my last time standing at the podium. It was just the beginning.

Here’s my speech:

Honorable Chairs, esteemed delegates, and distinguished guests,

As the delegate of Honduras we strongly believe that this resolution should pass. As a developing nation, Honduras understands both the opportunities and the challenges presented by artificial intelligence. While AI has the potential to drive economic growth, we cannot ignore its disruptive effects on employment.

AI-driven automation is not just an issue for highly industrialized nations. Developing economies like Honduras face a unique challenge: our economies are still learning about digital technologies, yet we are already experiencing the consequences of job displacement. This is concerning for different groups, including women, rural workers, and those in informal sectors who may not have access to reskilling opportunities. If we do not act now, the digital divide will only deepen, further excite global inequality.

This resolution takes a comprehensive and balanced approach to AI governance. It does not seek to silence technological progress but rather to ensure that AI is integrated ethically and fairly. Through the establishment of the Global Artificial Intelligence Governance Framework , we can create international standards that hold corporations accountable for how AI impacts workers. The proposed Worker Displacement Index and annual reports will provide transparency, which is needed, allowing governments and organizations to track AI’s impact on employment and take proactive measures.

This resolution acknowledges the significant role of social safety nets. AI-driven unemployment is not a temporary concern ,it is a structural transformation of the workforce. Expanding unemployment benefits, ensuring healthcare access, and prioritizing marginalized communities will help prevent economic destabilization and social unrest.

Delegates, let us not allow AI to become a tool of inequality. Instead, let us shape its development in a way that benefits all workers, regardless of nationality or socioeconomic status. By supporting this resolution, we are taking a decisive step toward a future where technological progress does not come at the expense of human dignity.

Honduras urges all member states to vote in favor of this resolution. Let us create a future of work full of opportunity, security and fairness for all.

Thank you. We yield the floor to the chair.
